MANILA, Philippines – Vietnam defeated the Philippine team Azkals Under-23 in the opening match of the 2011 Southeast Asian Games at Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno in Indonesia.
The powerhouse team Vietnam posted a total of three goals while the Philippines made one, 3-1.
Azkals made the first goal from Manny Ott in the first half of the leg match.
But the Pinoy booters failed to beat the strong defense and aggressive offense of Vietnam when the Vietnamese hit three goals in the second half.
Prior to this, the Azkals U-23 team has promised to do their best in their opening crusade but it appeared that Vietnam proved their worth for seizing a reputation being deemed as the powerhouse team.
The Philippines is set to face Timor Leste this Monday for Game 2./PHILIPPINE NEWS DAILY
